SJP calls in the administrators

SJP (UK), the self-adhesive label producer, has been placed into administration with the loss of 39 jobs at its St Neots operation.

The firm, formerly known as Samuel Jones, had a turnover of approximately 40m last year.

It cited the strength of sterling, a competitive market and a tightening of credit terms as factors in the administration.

The groups last set of accounts, to 31 December 2000, show pre-tax losses of 2.2m on sales of 43.7m. Its board called in Kroll Buchler Phillips on 16 July.

Administrator Anthony Beveridge said that despite there being no confirmed interested parties, he was hopeful a sale could be completed soon to safeguard the remaining 190 jobs.

SJPs most widely known range is the Taktik label brand, which is stocked by Robert Horne and Antalis in the UK.
