The business, a franchisee in the Signs Express group, took delivery of the RGB UK-supplied machine in July after it experienced an increased demand for wider width work.
With a list price of under £18,000, the 64in (1.62m-wide) SC-S80600 features a combined precision media feeding system and features dual PrecisionCore TFP printheads that support enhanced productivity.
It uses Epson's UltraChrome GS3 nine-colour solvent inks, including a red solvent along with the option for white or metallic silver inks. It runs at speeds up to 95.1sqm/hr.
Workshop and fabrications manager Mikey Walker said: “Our previous Roland VersaCamm VS-540 printer could print widths up to [1.25m] but that meant there were joins in any printed panels larger than the [1.25m].
“So, we looked around at other printers with a larger bed. We chose the Epson SureColor SC-S80600 after it was recommended by another Signs Express franchise.
“The main advantage for us was the fact the Epson prints on media up to [1.55m] wide, which is now a staple of our production.”
He added: “It is a lot quicker with the double heads fitted and its multiple pass modes. Also important was the fact it had the front and back take up rollers as standard.
“We were impressed with the print quality and the ink usage. Its ease of use makes a big difference, too, and I have personally found that the cleaning modes and heating times are a lot better now.
“Since it was installed, we have found it to be just what we wanted in a printer. The quality is superior and the setup to print time has improved greatly.”
