ShortList publishes ‘Greatest’ 400th issue

Free weekly men’s magazine ShortList has published its 400th issue, a 'tribute to what makes men great'.

The title, the UK’s biggest men’s lifestyle magazine, has called the ‘Greatest Issue’, published today (26 November), “its most ambitious edition”. The magazine launched in 2007.

The 88pp issue, which has a print run of just over 500,000, features photoshoots and interviews with ‘great males’, and aims to determine how they have lived their lives and achieved their greatness.

Editor Martin Robinson said: “This issue has been about a year in the making. We had an idea that it should be ‘the greatest issue ever’ and wanted to get the greatest people and look at what it takes to be a great man and achieve great things.”

Included in the issue are Michael Caine, Steve Redgrave, Ray Winstone, John Cooper Clarke, AP McCoy, Paul Smith, John Lydon, John Cleese, Martin Scorsese, Mario Testino, Thierry Henry, John Hurt, Kazuo Ishiguro, Jonathan Ross and Joe Calzaghe.

Also included are features on the greatest supercars, the 1970 Brazil World Cup team, the greatest stand-up comedians, the greatest British meals and the greatest British novel of the last 100 years.

ShortList said the issue sets the standard for the future of the men’s market and provides a unique audience for advertisers including Coach, Bose, Jimmy Choo, Lacoste and Superdry to communicate to culturally literate, style-conscious, and technologically engaged young professionals.

“We were the first to do freemium properly and people were highly sceptical about how long it would last so to reach our 400th issue is really impressive and exciting,” said Robinson.

“We’re still growing as well and we’ve not struggled to get here. The men’s market is in trouble but everything here is expanding and our revenue is up.”

ShortList magazine encompasses eight editorial areas: fashion, design, music, sport, film, TV, gaming and food. The title is published by ShortList Media and printed at Polestar Sheffield.
