The move would not affect Z-Card's sales and marketing operation and any moves relating to any relocation of staff and equipment from its Runcorn plant is currently under discussion. The 80-strong workforce at Z-Card are currently involved in a 30 day consultation period.
"We will consult very carefully with the staff as it is a good opportunity for everybody," said Scorpio chief executive Ian Whitfield (pictured).
"This move is completely in tune with that we want to do. Z-Card is very ambitious and focused. They have a fabulous product and fantastic potential."
"It is a great opportunity for both companies," added Z-Card non-executive director Jo Lloyd. "For us to be aligned with an experienced print finishing firm will help us expand in the market."
Z-Card produces its products using its own bespoke and patented equipment. The company bought the assets of Z-Media Group over two years ago (PrintWeek, 7 February, 2003).
Meanwhile Scorpio's Whitfield said that the company was still in talks to buy Kent-based print finishing firm TTB Group. "But it is far from a done deal at the moment," he added.
Scorpio began negotiations with TTB at the end of last month after it signalled its intention to have a presence in the south.
