Polestar has decided to retain its Scientifica division, originally earmarked for sale along with packaging.
Weve been through a complete group review, from the bottom to the top, and looked at everything thats non-core to decide whether those businesses can be managed better elsewhere, said group sales and marketing director John Ashfield. At the same time we took apart the sectors in our Scientifica business. The for sale sign has been taken down and it doesnt go back up these guys are adding value and there will be announcements in the next couple of months regarding expansion.
Scientifica specialises in journals, new media products and software solutions. It comprises five companies: Wheatons, Exeter Bindery, Scientifica Studio, AUP (Aberdeen University Press) and Whitefriars.
The GPMU has reached a satisfactory conclusion concerning the proposed redundancies at Polestar East Kilbride.
There will be in the region of 40 redundancies on a voluntary basis, said GPMU Scottish secretary David Munro.
Instead of the proposed removal of two of its KBA S60 webs, Kilbride will retain one of them, making it a two-press operation.
