RR Donnelley wins $550m printing contract

RR Donnelley has been awarded a $550m multi-year agreement by American Media (AMI) to provide a broad array of services, including premedia, magazine production and variable digital printing in both North America and the UK.

The multi-year deal, which extends and expands an already existing business relationship, between the two companies, also calls for RR Donnelley to provide transpromo and electronic communications services through its CustomPoint Solutions Group.

American Media is best known for celebrity magazines such as the National Enquirer, Star and OK!, but it also produces a host of other lifestyle periodical including Shape, Men's Fitness, Muscle & Fitness, Flex, Fit Pregnancy and Natural Health.

As part of the deal RR Donnelley will produce all new AMI launches and will also print and bind the popular weekly titles OK! and Star.

RR Donnelley did not respond to an interview request from PrintWeek. But in a statement, company COO John Paloian, said, "For almost a quarter of a century we've been working to deliver value to AMI. We are very proud to continue this expanding relationship. The platform that we have built offers exceptional flexibility, with offset, gravure and variable digital printing and a host of related services."
