RR Donnelley acquires Ohio packaging firm StratusGroup

Looking to further expand its consumer packaging capacity, RR Donnelley this week acquired West Chester, OH-based StratusGroup, which specializes in custom pressure-sensitive labels and packaging for health & beauty, food, beverage and other segments.

RR Donnelley did not respond to interview requests but in a statement, company COO John Paloian said, "With the exponential growth in media choices available to consumers, point-of-purchase packaging plays an increasingly important role in our customers' marketing mixes.

StratusGroup's superb decorative labeling and paperboard resources offer an excellent complement to our prime label, corrugated and other global packaging capabilities. Its location is also ideal, with its facility in close proximity to RR Donnelley kitting and fulfillment centers."

StratusGroup offers UV flexography, UV offset, UV rotary, digital and conventional offset for a range of custom products, including folding carton, insert and multi-pack. It also offers labeling solutions for bottles and last year worked with alcoholic beverage company Seagram on design and custom labeling for the rebranding of its flavored cooler line.

"Over the course of nearly two decades, StratusGroup has been serving customers with innovative capabilities and exceptional quality," said StratusGroup president Robert Curran in a statement announcing the deal. "As a part of RR Donnelley, we will offer our customers an even broader range of resources and draw on its world class fulfillment and logistics capabilities to deliver even more complete solutions."

The Stratus Group deal closely follows RR Donnelley's September acquisition of Lemont, IL-based Genesis Packaging & Design, a printing specialist in custom packaging, POP displays and signage.
