The sale of part of Royal Mail could be delayed if bidders fail to table an offer that meets government expectations – rumoured to be in excess of £2bn for 30% – according to reports.
Any sell-off plans could be hit further by reports that Prime Minster Gordon Brown may be forced to abandon the idea with 149 Labour MPs signing a motion against the sale.
The parliamentary calls are the latest stumbling block to hit the proposed sell-off of Royal Mail, despite Mandelson reiterating his stance earlier this month.
Mandelson has previously said he and the cabinet "are not for turning" and that the government is set to proceed with its privatisation legislation.

The partial privatisation of the Royal Mail could be put on hold despite Business Secretary Lord Mandelson's vows to press ahead with plans for the mail operator.
