Kingston will work alongside chief executive Paul Utting and is charged with improving the group's operational efficiencies and providing support to Wyndeham's eight businesses.
He will also work alongside Paul Toms, manufacturing director at Heron and Southernprint and with Ian Tarry, who is operations director of Wyndeham Impact and Grange.
Kingston has 30 years' experience in the print industry and left Wyndeham in 2007 to set up a restructuring company. His most recent involvement with the business was as an HR consultant to assist with the job cuts at Heron in 2008.
Commenting on his appointment, Kingston said: "Wyndeham under Walstead Investments has a clear strategy and is now one of the dominant players in the sector.
"I have always enjoyed a close working relationship with the current Wyndeham board and feel that this represents a very exciting opportunity to address the challenges ahead."
Paul Utting added: "Roy has continued to maintain strong links with Wyndeham and has worked with the group on a number of projects since his departure. I am delighted to welcome him back full time as his extensive experience and operational expertise will serve to further strengthen our management team."
