The move adds to the firm's Oc range after it bought three VarioPrint 2110 machines and a CPS 900 last October. The new investment was made after Resource managing director Phil Thomson and operations director David Woodcock saw the product demonstrated at Oc's open house event in Poing, Germany, last month.
"Through winning new business we have seen our volumes grow dramatically over the past year," said Thomson. "We now need to look further ahead and are confident that the 6250 is the answer to our current and future needs. Taking on a 6250 will give us up to 80% more capacity."
The VarioPrint 6250 prints both sides of the sheet simultaneously using new imaging technology called Gemini. The cutsheet digital press has a maximum speed of 250 A4ppm and costs from 250,000 to 350,000, depending on configuration.
"This high speed printer will help build Resource Print business by increasing capacity, producing more double sided output in less time and offering a higher level of service to their customers," said Simon Wheeler, Oc UK business group director for commercial printing.
He added that Oc's UK division aims to win 20% of the ultra high-speed monochrome market and plans to double its graphic arts revenue in the next three years.
Oc chairman Rokus van Iperen said the company would be looking at mergers and acquisition activity in the wide-format market. "It is a very fragmented sector and there is likely to be consolidation. Oc is certainly aiming to play an important role in any activity," he added.
Meanwhile, Technologic, Itec Colour Graphics and Pro Digital Technologies have joined a graphic arts resellers programme set up by Oc to expand its sales partners.
