The Foliant brings lamination in-house for the first time, a move partly driven to ensure the integrity of data used in personalised projects as well as reducing lead times.

Operations director David Woodcock said: “Having the laminator in-house means we can turn around the bits and pieces of lamination we do at a much quicker pace. We are no longer reliant on a third party, which tended to slow down the process and, post-GDPR, we are looking to take more control of where the data we handle is seen.

“We have dealt with IFS for many years and, though we did look at alternatives for our new equipment, we saw that nothing else really fit our mix quite as effectively.”

Four members of Resource’s team were trained to work on the laminator, which was installed in April, although some already had lamination experience from previous roles. The B2 machine runs automatic feeding at 40m/min for sizes B2+.

the new Horizon Mark III was taken on with three VAC-600 collators and can run at a maximum speed of 6,000bph or 12,000bph in two-up production mode using servo drive technology.

It will be used to produce a variety of books for Resource’s clients, though the key motivation for Woodcock was that it produces A5 landscape booklets far quicker than its predecessor.

Following on from the acquisition of print and events company Tebays last year, the Leeds-based print and marketing firm has increased its focus on event management but continues to enhance its print and finishing capabilities.

The next steps for Resource will involve the continued development of its events wing, as well as continuing to develop its marketing and creative agency services.

The firm’s print facilities include an SRA1 Ryobi 925 press, several HP Indigos, a mono Canon printer and envelope printing capabilities. Its finishing portfolio includes binding kit, guillotines, wiro binding, polywrapping and automated inserting.

Resource now employs 55 people, with 10 added in the acquisition of Tebays.
