Renz, who succeeded his father Alfred in the top role in 1978, announced that he was stepping back from the fore yesterday. He will sit on the advisory board that was formed earlier this month, where he will not be involved in the day-to-day running of the business.
His successor is Michael Schubert, who takes over as managing partner immediately. Schubert joined the company in 2006 as international sales manager following a 12-year career in the Central and South American capital goods sector.
Renz, 67, bought the land to build the company’s second hall in Heubach, southwest Germany when he joined the ten-man team in the early 70s. He grew the company beyond Germany as soon as he took over, establishing first a subsidiary in the USA. This was followed by the Great Britain office in 1992, and global bases quickly followed.
He was also responsible for instigating production of wire comb binding, and brought the first semiautomatic version to market, the Renz Autobind 420 in his first year as chief executive.
