Reader Reaction: Should Northprint move to Manchester for its next show?

David Wyvill, managing director, Platinum Print "If the show was in Manchester, we probably wouldn’t have done the deal this year [the Harrogate firm bought a Ricoh C901 Graphic Arts Edition digital press on the final day of Northprint]. In fact, every year we’ve come to the show we’ve bought something. People also come to Harrogate because it’s a beautiful town. If you want to go out we have the best restaurants in the country, we really have, and if you want a good night we have that. We have all that and we’re classy with it. You can’t say the same about Manchester."

Chris Cooper, managing director, Terry Cooper Services "I think a lot of people will be attracted by Harrogate itself: it’s a nice place, people like to come here and they like to go to the tea shop, Bettys. Harrogate may not attract the right people necessarily, although it does drag the Scottish boys down. Manchester won’t have the same appeal to those people, but it is no problem where it is. I do think we need a small show every few years. At Ipex, everything needs to be set out right because it takes so long to get around – you have to fight to get people on your stand."

Ian Fisher, managing director, Mortons of Horncastle "Harrogate is convenient for us to get to and from in a day, and Manchester would be a little further away but not by much so I don’t think it would affect us. I don’t think the location is particularly important, personally, it’s somewhere to catch up with people and find out what is going on in the industry. When we used to go to Newstech in Brighton we had to book hotels and take a night away – if that isn’t an issue, the location doesn’t really matter."
