Quebecor prints Bauers Cut

Quebecor World will today enter the high-octane world of mens weekly magazines, with the arrival on newsstands of publisher H Bauers Cut.

The newest title in the sector, created by the launches of Emap's Zoo and IPC's Nuts earlier this year, will sell at 50p for the first two issues before going up to 1 as of 26 August. Bauer says it will tone down the sexy attitude of its rivals with a focus on news and entertainment, sports and reviews. A spokesman for the publisher said: "Cut's unique proposition is obvious in a marketplace dominated by girls."

Quebecor World in Corby has picked up the contract to print the new title just weeks after losing its massive Associated News supplement printing contract to Polestar (PrintWeek, 1 July 2004).

Cooper Clegg in Tewkesbury prints Zoo, which has an estimated circulation of 200,000, as well as its monthly stablemate FHM. Polestar Chantry has the contract for the estimated 290,000-circulation Nuts. Bauer has refused to reveal the initial print run for Cut.

Richard Desmond's Northern & Shell is mulling a launch in the same market. The publisher of OK! has registered the name KO! for the project, but a spokesman said the magazine was one of a "number of options" under consideration.

[o] In the version of this story printed in today's issue of PrintWeek we inadvertently transposed the printers of Zoo and Nuts, and confused Greaves with Chantry. Apologies to all concerned for this error.
