Quantum Bookbinders fills lamination and spot UV hole

Quantum Bookbinders has installed an Autobond laminator and Sakurai spot UV machine to fill the gap left by the closure of Leeds printer Best Cover.

The Clevedon-based company started up in late 2009 following the demise of owner Richard Hughes's previous company WH Ware.

In a short space of time, the company has taken on a second facility, following a successful first year.

However, when Ecoat Finish, formerly known as Best Cover, closed in June, Hughes saw an opportunity.

He said: "I noticed a need in the area for spot UV and laminating, which no other local binder can offer. I have taken on one of the key members of Best Cover staff to give Quantum the know-how and experience we need to offer quality and service."

The company installed the B1 Sakurai SC 102 A from Global Ggraphics in June, with the installation of a B1 Autobond mini 105 completed at the end of July, taking total investment since it formed to £900,000.

Hughes said the company would turn over £700,000 for the year ending November 2011.

Currently Quantum offers folding, guillotining, perfect binding, PUR binding, burst binding, sewing and shrink-wrapping. Hughes said that he may look at foil blocking next.
