Qualitech administrators axe two-thirds of staff

Around two-thirds of the employees at failed printer Qualitech have been made redundant as the administrator continues to work towards a sale.

Stockport-based Qualitech went into administration with administrator PKF on 7 August 2009 after "running out of money". Its director said last week that he hoped for a quick sale of the business to a larger printer, in order to ensure its future survival.

Of the 62 staff previously employed by the company, 12 are now being employed by the administrator to assist in completing work.

Administrator Jon Newell told PrintWeek that nine other staff were "in limbo" while the administrator made a decision on their roles. The remaining employees have all been made redundant.

He said: "We have had a number of expressions of interest in the business, all from within the industry. We are now encouraging them to put in an official offer."
