Prolam takes on B1 sector with Bobst die-cutter and new site

Trade finisher Prolam has finalised a 1m transformation into B1 finishing with the purchase of a new Bobst Commercial 106 die-cutter.

The new machine will join a UV varnisher, laminator and spot UV varnisher, which have all been purchased over the past two years as part of the move to B1.

The Commercial 106 will enable cutting, creasing and embossing at B1 sheet size. Prolam recruited three new staff when the die-cutter was brought in and now employs nine people.

Prolam managing director Paul Blanksby said: “We have always been a B2 finisher, but decided to make the move because many of our commercial print customers were making the move.

“This purchase completes the move over to B1 and means that we can now handle pretty much anything from anyone.”

To ensure that all of the new machinery fits, Prolam has also purchased a new 1,100sqm site in Rotherham.

Blanksby said, “This site gave us the space that we needed to install the Bobst die-cutter and also meant that we could bring our pocket folder equipment back in from a separate location. At the same time, it gives us more space for work-in-progress and room for future expansion.”

The firm has not finished investing, and Blanksby said that he would be bringing in a second spot UV machine by September next year.
