Online print procurement site 58k.com has captured 600 registered users since going live in April in a "dream start" for the dotcoms European expansion.
More than 350 print jobs have been placed through the site, which operates an "open auction" business model.
European managing director Martin Tamlyn said the split between print buyers and printers was "roughly 50:50", with a slightly greater number of printers registered. "People are using the site well, and theyre using the help line for the right sort of question.
"Of course weve had resistance and people phone up and say were taking the food out of their babys mouth, but some people Id expected to by cynical have actually embraced it its different once people understand the system and Im pleasantly surprised by some of the well-known names that have signed up."
Tamlyn added that print buying users included a couple of "very, very big" corporate buyers, and that some buyers had instructed their printers to use the site. He also commented on speculation about the expected shake-out among print dotcoms: "We are not burning venture capital money like its going out of fashion, and those values will hold us in good stead we are careful about our burn rate and are very profit and loss focused."
