Printwise forks out 2m on kit

Lymington-based Printwise has invested over 2m in new Heidelberg kit and a 900sqm purpose-built plant after outgrowing its current capacity.

It will install a Speedmaster CD 74-5, a Polar 115XT guillotine and a Stitchmaster ST100 at the new factory, due to be opened in February.

Printwise will need to move from its high-street location after over 40 years at the site. "This is the biggest investment we've ever made," said managing director John Bryant. "But if you don't move with the times, you're likely to get left behind."

Bryant hopes the investment will enable Printwise, which does a lot of fine-art printing for London galleries, to win bigger accounts with agencies and clients such as the National Gallery.

The company also plans to operate a fully JDF-networked production operation. It will initially link pre-press and press using Prinect Prepress Interface, but once its new kit is installed, it hopes to link its Optimus MIS to the factory floor.
