During 2007, all the Nelson-based company's waste paper was recycled – amounting to 133 tonnes.

All 4023kg of its aluminium printing plates were also recycled, as were all of the chemicals from its eight- and six-colour Roland B2 presses.

In addition, plate-making procedures were recycled totalling 5600 litres.

Managing director Brian Hough said: "We have found that dealing with environmental concerns does not have to compromise quality or our superior customer service standard.

"We feel we can offer our clients environmental peace of mind and competitive prices."

The company has purchased three digital presses – two Océs and a Konica Minolta – which it said have low carbon emissions, over the past year. The existing Roland presses already use vegetable-based ink.

Printoff Graphic Arts was established in 1976 and its markets include education, health care, commercial blue chip organisations and public bodies.
