In addition to reducing its environmental impact, the London-based company said the certification has opened doors to contracts with companies who specify it as a prerequisite. 

Account director Paul Manning said, from a business perspective, the company went after the accreditation because competitors were securing green badges and many more tenders were insisting upon it.

He claimed buyers are putting an increased onus on certification when it comes to deciding whether a company is suitable, run properly and environmentally aware.

"Whether you agree or disagree with this, it is something we identified and put in place for the future of the business," he said.

However, he added that generally, smaller companies might miss out on some environmental accreditations due to the cost of implementation.

He added: "In theory, you could be the most environmentally sustainable printer in the world, but if you can’t afford to take on ISO 14001 you would be overlooked by many large organisations, government departments and councils."

The £5m-turnover business has 45-staff and is already FSC and PEFC certified. It has plans to introduce new greener vans to its company.

The company services the financial, events, government, retail and commercial markets.
