Printers urged to join work experience scheme ahead of 2012 Games

BAPC and Tribal Consulting have announced the launch of a work experience programme aimed at getting more people into print in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Printers and graphic design companies will be given up to £1,000 for taking on work experience staff from the People into Print project, which is backed by £450,000 from the London Development Agency (LDA) and designed to help people in London get work during tough economic times.

Sidney Bobb, chairman of the BAPC, said: "The economic climate is not conducive to new jobs and this is an attempt to provide real opportunities in an exciting sector.

"Everyone who runs a print business in London should consider getting involved, especially if they would like help in attracting fresh talent."

People into Print will reward participants with an official qualification. Applications are open to anyone between 16 and 64 who is unemployed and eligible to work within London.

Those chosen will begin a development programme before twinning with a registered employer, who will oversee their continued training.

The BAPC represents and supports over 1,200 London-based printers and graphic design companies.

Bobb added: "The feedback from participating companies has been most encouraging so far.

"Employers need not be concerned that the scheme will be a drain on resources either, as apart from having the flexibility to choose the timing duration of the placement, full training support will be provided."
