During March, the business took delivery of the Canon press – which followed the installation of its first iX3200 in 2022, plus a Renz Mobi 500 semi-automatic binding machine and a Renz AP 360 automatic punch machine direct from Renz, and a Horizon SPF-200A bookletmaker from Intelligent Finishing Systems (IFS).
The additional kit has all been installed at Printed.com’s main circa-4,600sqm Northumberland site.
David Duncan, production director at Printed.com, said: “The investment in this Canon machine is more than a purchase, it’s a pivotal moment for our company as we step into the future of the print industry.
“We are committed to being at the forefront of innovation, ensuring our customers benefit from the very best the industry has to offer.”
Nicholas Green, founder of Printed.com, told Printweek the investment represents “stage one of the plan” for the business, with stage two likely to follow later this year “to keep up with business growth, assuming the path stays as it does”.
He said: “The Canon printers have brought speed and reliability to the business, and we definitely think it’s a very cost-effective digital device. From our point of view, the quality – which is always going to be very important for us – remains absolutely solid.
“The pattern in our work has changed quite a lot in the last few years – the type of work we’re doing, the run lengths we’re doing, and the timing that’s required for things, and I think – from a sheetfed perspective – we’ve been really happy with Canon since we put the first in and the second one has bedded in incredibly quickly and very nicely.”
Printed.com, which also runs digital presses from HP and Ricoh, employs around 170 staff and has a turnover aim of “just shy of £25m” for this year.
Late last year, Printed.com signed for its second production site – a circa-929sqm “spacious and custom-designed” unit situated within “a stone’s throw” of its main Northumberland headquarters.
