Price of heads halved as Muller woos customers

Muller Martini has halved the price of its stitching heads in a move to entice customers away from using alternative units.

The firm claims that while many alternative heads are cheaper, they are often of inferior quality and too complicated to maintain and adjust.

"What we're saying is you can come to us and get a genuine part, with a six-month warranty and all our back-up," said technical director Martyn Snoad.

"So in order to woo customers back we've bought the prices down so that we're competitive with the 'less official' offerings."

The sale will begin on Monday (1 August) and will run for between three to six months. In this period the firm's standard HK75 head, for example, will sell for 750.

The strategy is linked to a review of the firm's spares pricing, which could lead to wholesale reductions across other "off the shelf" spares next year.

"Spares are a key part of our business and I want to maximise that," said Snoad.
