Presstek switches to AB Dick for the UK

AB Dick has picked up the UK agency for Pressteks Dimension platesetters and PearlDry and Anthem processless plates.

It has taken over the responsibility for sales, marketing and support from Castle Donington-based Graphics & Offset Plates (GOP), which has been served a letter of termination by Presstek.

Presstek was unhappy with the level of service and market coverage of GOP and hoped the new deal would increase sales and improve customer service.

"AB Dick is a large company with an excellent profile and a lot of experience in presses and CTP," said Presstek general manager for off-press business David Ventola. "We believe it has the resources to give our products the exposure they require in the UK and to back them up with first class nationwide sales and service support."

The Presstek Dimension range fills a gap in AB Dick’s platesetter portfolio."I always felt that we needed a metal platesetter," said AB Dick sales and marketing director Ray Hillhouse. "Chemistry disposal and use is going to become a big issue. It’s the right time to get involved in processless."

The B2 Dimension 400 and B1 Dimension 800 help AB Dick to expand
its market coverage beyond its traditional B3 client base.

B2 is of particular interest as some of its customers have both B3 and B2 presses but will not consider a polyester platesetter for the larger format.

"B2 polyester is difficult. Having metal plates will drive the consumables
business into B2," said Hillhouse.
