Up for grabs are three Roland Soljet machines, an Océ Arizona 6170 XTS UV flatbed, an HP Designjet Z6200 1.5m inkjet and a Mimaki UJV55-320 3.2m printer.
Positive+’s restructuring around Latex machines, kicked off by installations of an R2000 and two R800s in mid- and late 2022, had meant the firm was hardly using the older printers, according to chief commercial and sustainability officer, Tony Dennington.
“There’s no point in holding onto stuff for the sake of it,” he told Printweek, adding that he had been sold on the water-based Latex technologies’ environmental credentials.
He said: “We’re changing our kit to gear towards sustainability, and we’re moving predominantly now to HP. We’re really doing that as much as for the speed as for the water-based inks, which we tend to favour.”
The sale of the laminators was similarly prompted as the firm cuts down on plastic – while the two cutters were rendered obsolete by a new Zund G3 router: “It’s faster, it’s cleaner, it multi-tasks, and it’s pretty much automated,” he said.
Dennington added that he wasn’t sure how much the equipment sale would realise for the firm.
“We don’t have a clue, to be honest. The machines are taking up space more than they add in value, and when you take into account service charges and maintenance agreements when we’re not even using the machines – well, we don’t want to commit too much of our time to selling the machines, we just need to move on and get on with our production.”
A number of staff from Positive+ will be attending the Fespa Global Print Expo in May, to scout out further potential investments for the company.
Dennington added that the firm will be looking to hire several staff over the next few months, as it benefits from increased productivity.
The surplus kit is being auctioned through Surplex.
