Polestar to mothball Chromoworks press, 16 jobs to go

Polestar has announced that it is to mothball one of its Komori presses at Polestar Chromoworks, with 16 jobs at risk.

A consultation with employees began earlier this month after Polestar decided to cut the number of active presses on site from four to three.

HR director Simon Jones said that the company hoped to make up most of the redundancies through volunteers, while it would also be hoping to move some staff to other areas of the company.

He added that the company was turning off the press because "we are looking to have the right presses across the group".

Unite has said that it understands the need for the redundancies and hopes to make up most of the losses through the volunteers.

National officer Steve Sibbald said: "If the company is moving a press it means the work is not there and we aren't going to try and retain a lot of jobs that don't exist any more.

"We are hoping that a lot of the positions can be moved elsewhere and we are confident that is what will happen. Of course, if there are people that want to move we will look to negotiate the best deal for our members."
