The US-headquartered print giant split into three separate businesses earlier this year.
The UK wing of RR Donnelley & Sons encompasses transactional printing, direct mail and business process outsourcing.
PrintWeek understands that around a dozen staff have been made redundant. Executive level departures include Alastair Watson, vice-president of strategic sourcing, who had been with the business for almost nine years.
Vice-president of marketing Damian Traynor has also left after nearly a decade in the role.
A source close to the situation said: "They seem to be restructuring and taking out an entire senior management tier. A good chunk of people has been made redundant.”
Chris Cartwright, RR Donnelley senior vice-president and UK & Ireland managing director, did not respond to a request for comment.
The UK business names do not yet reflect the new structure. RR Donnelley Global Document Solutions Group is one of the biggest printing and print management businesses in the UK, operating from 12 locations across the country and employing more than 1,500 staff.
Last year the business posted sales up 3% to £221.5m, and turned around the previous year’s £1.5m loss to post a pre-tax profit of £2.9m.
However, the group did highlight the potential risks attached to its business model, which involves dealing with very large contracts in market sectors including banking, insurance and the public sector. The firm’s top five customers account for 40% of sales.
