The company has three plants in total, with the other two based in Normanton and Darton, both in Yorkshire. The business and machinery from Stoke will be transferred to these two plants. There will be around 70 positions available at the other two factories for Stoke employees willing to relocate.
The Stoke factorys distance from the other two plants, limited opportunity for expansion and environmental pressures due to a significant amount of housing in the area, all contributed to the decision to close the factory.
Parksides group marketing executive, Chris Elliott, said: Flexible packaging is not what it once was and pressures from the market place have led us to close one site.
Elliott added: One of the reasons for closing Stoke was the location. The other two sites are within a quarter of an hour of each other. The Stoke site was also quite old and expansion was limited.
Parkside has agreed an enhanced redundancy package with the Ceramics and Allied Trade Union (CATU). There will be a 2.5% pay increase and guaranteed employment until 15 August.
The plant will close on 15 September.
