PaperX.com has made two high-profile UK sales directors redundant along with 11 other European sales and marketing staff.
Paul Venediger, in charge of printing and writing papers, and packaging paper chief William McMullen fell foul of PaperX's re-focus as a software- and technology-based firm.
"We have always seen ourselves in the paper industry, but we need to firm up our technical side," said marketing director Hedda Bird.
"When we came into this we thought clients would want logistics and sales, but the message has been integration, integration."
PaperX has appointed Paul Donaldson as European head of sales. His remit is to strengthen the salesforce with industry and outside experts.
