Pantone has described its Colour of the Year for 2025, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, as “an evocative soft brown that transports our senses into the pleasure and deliciousness it inspires”.

Following on from Pantone 13-1023 Peach Fuzz, its pick for Colour of the Year 2024, Pantone said Mocha Mousse “nurtures with its suggestion of the delectable quality of cacao, chocolate and coffee, appealing to our desire for comfort”.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director at Pantone Color Institute, said: “Underpinned by our desire for everyday pleasures, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence.

“Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace the aspirational and luxe.

“Infused with subtle elegance and earthy refinement, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse presents a discrete and tasteful touch of glamour. A flavourful brown shade, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse envelopes us with its sensorial warmth.”

Pantone highlighted a growing movement to align more closely with the natural world and that, characterised by its organic nature, Mocha Mousse “honours and embraces the sustenance of our physical environment”.

Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, continued to wax lyrical about the selection: “The everlasting search for harmony filters through into every aspect of our lives including our relationships, the work we do, our social connections and the natural environment that surrounds us.

“Harmony brings feelings of contentment, inspiring a positive state of inner peace, calm, and balance as well as being tuned in with the world around us. Harmony embraces a culture of connection and unity as well as the synthesis of our mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing.”

With that in mind, she added the chosen colour “reaches into our desire for comfort and wellness, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others”.

The introduction of Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse marks the 26th anniversary of the Pantone Colour of the Year programme, which was first introduced by the Pantone Color Institute in 1999.

For the first time this year, Pantone highlighted the colour in events and experiences all over the world.

Pantone’s first stop on its international tour was with its official unveil partner, the lastminute.com London Eye. The attraction unveiled the colour by lighting up the London skyline with Mocha Mousse yesterday evening (5 December).

Official partners for Pantone’s Colour of the Year this year include Motorola, Joybird, Pura, Wix Studio, Spoonflower, Ipsy, Society6, and Post-It.

Motorola said its new special edition smartphone, razr+, will be the first and only smartphone in the US to launch in Mocha Mousse.
