One visitor to our recent PrintWeekLive! event seems to have been somewhat confused about the nature of our print showcase, which highlighted some of the great work to be found among the winning entries in last year’s PrintWeek Awards.
Curiously, one light-fingered attendee seemed to think that it was not so much a ‘showcase’, as an opportunity to make off with some free swag.
No sooner had the show opened than the St Pancras White Cedar and Stars scented candle, with its award-winning label beautifully produced by Amberley Labels in Blandford Forum, vanished without trace within three hours of going on show.
For those who missed seeing it as a result, two separate laminated substrates achieved a tactile, textured feel for a limited edition of 500 digitally printed labels. What’s more, matt varnishing, embossing, hot-foiling and die-cutting worked their wonders to give the finished label an exquisite border and unique shape.
We didn’t so much scent white cedar as disappointment at its sudden disappearance.
Still, we live and learn. Next year expect CCTV, motion sensors and those giant security tags. Alternatively we’ll just have to nail everything down.
