This tale, however, involves some genuine heroics of the life-saving variety from GF Smith paper consultant Megan Simpkins.
While enjoying what should have been a relaxing stroll with a chum around Hyde Park on a recent sunny weekend, Megan happened to be passing the Serpentine lake just as two small siblings were trying to retrieve a wayward football.
With no parents in sight, the young boy fell into the water with potentially tragic consequences. Fortunately, our heroine was on hand, and, alerted by her friend’s shout of alarm having spotted what was happening, leapt into the water and – movie style – raised the boy out of danger with one hand.
Who needs a Marvel superhero when you’ve got a Megan?!
Although, unlike a superhero she subsequently had to get changed into a spare pair of her friend’s pyjamas, behind a makeshift screen using a sheet that happened to be in the car...
All we can say is that she deserves a medal, and thank goodness there was a quick-thinking Aussie with exemplary swimming skills on hand at the time.
