Notable mentions must go to a couple of decent efforts that have come to Overmatter’s attention. In a very on-trend spoof, James Freemantle of London private press St James Park Press received a fairly convincing- looking letter (dated 1 April) from Kensington Palace, commissioning him to print the invitations and order of service for the upcoming royal wedding, with a print run of – wait for it – 20,000.
Freemantle concedes that might be a bit of a stretch on his Albion. He is yet to track down the culprit. “If I ever find out who it is, I’m giving them a bottle of Champagne for the effort,” he tells Overmatter, so it could be worth confessing.
Meanwhile, Argos launched Eau de Catalogue a USB-powered scent diffuser for digital natives that “smells exactly like the catalogue”. Recipients of the promo email who might just have smelt something fishy were offered a discount voucher as recompense for the spoof.
