The press was delivered to the 90-staff firm’s Penge site yesterday (14 March). It has replaced an Inca Onset S20, which the company has sold on.
At its other site in Biggin Hill the business operates a second Scitex 11000, which was bought two years ago as a Scitex 10000 and has since had several updates to bring it up to the same specification as the new press.
The 11000, which can print at speeds of up to 650sqm/hr or 127 full-size sheets/hr, can increase versatility and productivity for high-volume indoor signage and display applications, according to HP.
Odessa Print Group managing director Bob Charles said: “The quality, speed and efficiency of the 11000 will allow us to take some of the work off our KBA Rapida 205 and will increase our capacity.
“We’ve picked up a few new clients recently and we’re looking to grow the company further.”
He added: “Over the past five years we’ve grown our turnover from £6m to £12m and all of that is from POS work. We’ve got some nice blue-chip direct retail customers.”
The business also considered alternatives including the Inca Onset X3 but decided that it would make more sense to run two 11000s instead, said Charles.
As well as the 11000s and the KBA large-format litho press, the company also operates a Xerox iGen4 XXL, an HP Scitex XP5300 five-metre roll-to-roll device, an HP Scitex Turbojet 8300, two Kongsberg cutting tables and Bickers gluing stations.
Longer term the business is hoping to consolidate its operations by moving into one larger purpose-built unit with around 6,500sqm space. It currently has around 4,180sqm space across its two units.
