Oc unveils class-leading mono production printer at Print 09

Oc has launched the fastest cut-sheet monochrome press yet, a flagship for its VarioPrint range, at Print 09.The VarioPrint Ultra 6320 produces 314 A4 images, or 155 duplex A3 sheets per minute.

It is 25% faster than the Océ 6250 and also outstrips the 300ppm Kodak Digimaster EX300 and the Xerox Nuvera 288.
Océ UK production printing product manager Paul Krisson said: "We will once again have the fastest cut- sheet mono machine, and it's still the only machine with one-pass technology."

The 600x1,200dpi Vario-Print 6000 range, which also includes 160, 200 and 250ppm machines, is aimed primarily at the print-on-demand book market.

The 320x488mm maximum sheet size and accurate front-to-back registration enables the Ultra 6320 to produce 8pp signatures in demy and royal formats.

Other markets for the machines include the financial and higher education markets. A new feature for those markets is what Océ UK product manager for production cut sheet mono Paul Knowles calls a "temporary speed licence".

This allows users of the 6160 to buy an upgrade to print at 250ppm rather than 160ppm for a month. It is designed to help companies increase productivity at particularly busy times of year.

The cost of the 6320 is £275,000, which Krisson said would represent a lower cost of ownership than the 6250 for high-volume users.

Océ has also developed tools to enable image quality to be set in the user interface rather than the front end. This can be used to balance mixed images within a job.
