The firm said the JetStream's ability to use its fifth channel for MICR inks is a unique capability among high-speed inkjet machines.
"We regard it as very important," said Océ programme manager for continuous feed marketing Alan Sutcliffe. "We anticipate that the biggest use for the fifth colour will be for spot colours, but MICR is significant as a lot of letters feature a return cheque.
"This opens up new applications for four-colour personalised cheques, which could include items from the Inland Revenue or from mobile phone companies offering cash-back."
The firm's first US customer using MICR on the JetStream, Direct Group, has just achieved certification with the US equivalent to Apacs, CPSA.
