The firm specialises in quick-turnaround printed cans for craft drinks businesses, with its name standing for ‘No more minimum order quantity’.
Nomoq will be looking to recruit a team of 30 for its UK site, which is slated to open in the West Midlands in summer 2023.
Peter Stein, CEO of Nomoq, said: “Following large demand for fully recyclable, lightweight and shatterproof cans from UK brands, coupled with a diverse and surging national craft beverage culture, the UK was quickly identified as an area for growth.
“We’re excited to provide beverage producers access to high quality cans, digitally printed with millions of colours and shades, and with no minimum order quantity.”
The lack of a minimum order quantity, he added, helps customers with tight cashflows or limited storage.
The company’s first UK customer was Edinburgh brewer Brulo.
Co-founder, James Brown, said: “Design plays a key role in the experience of craft beer and that’s no different for us just because our beers are non-alcoholic. We were blown away by NOMOQ’s quality and creativity which aligned with our brand values and we can’t wait to see our relationship grow as our range develops.”
The firm offers full matt, gloss and metallic finishes.
Making its first delivery in August 2022, the company’s cans — printed on a Hinterkopf engine at the German Kirchheimbolanden site — have already won it The Canmaker magazine’s Can of the Year 2022 award.
Nomoq’s expansion to the UK follows hot on the heels of its acquisition by NYSE-listed but Luxembourg-owned packaging giant Ardagh Metal Packaging (AMP) in February 2023.
Ardagh bought a majority stake in Nomoq for €15m, with another €10m due in 2024 if Nomoq reaches its growth goals. Ardagh’s purchase itself comes after its acquisition of Quebec-based digital can printer Hart.
Oliver Graham, CEO of AMP, said: "This latest step in our investment programme is a perfect fit for us, especially following the successful integration of Hart Print in North America which encouraged us to seek a similar model in Europe.
“Nomoq’s offer is innovative, customer-centric, and extraordinarily flexible — areas in which AMP has established a great reputation. Their dedication to creating outstanding packaging for customers of all sizes will enhance our ability to serve early-growth customers in the European market and extend our offering to established customers too."
AMP has 24 manufacturing facilities and has sales of over $4.7bn globally.
