Nipson in profit on VaryPress success

High-speed black and white digital press manufacturer Nipson has moved into the black with a modest profit on the back of a strong rise in equipment sales.

In the first quarter of 2005 the firm made a profit of 100,000 compared to a loss of 300,000 in Q1 2004. Overall revenues rose 17% to 7.8m, but the real star was equipment sales, which rose 62% to 3.2m.

Strong equipment sales were attributed to the success of its recently launched VaryPress 400, with installations in Germany and America.

"Innovative products such as the new VaryPress 400 and the VaryPress 200 are fuelling our growth," said managing director Alfons Buts.

"Moreover the expansion of our sales organisation and distribution is already resulting in new sales," he said.

The firm has signed up Pitman for US distribution and Syntax for Chinese distribution.

In March the firm raised additional capital through the secondary placement of shares to fund further growth.
