A former employee of Stora Ensos Newton Kyme paper mill has received a six-figure payout after his left hand was trapped between unguarded machine rollers.
Doctors were forced to amputate all the fingers on Paul Norris left hand.
The accident happened at Tadcaster mill on 8 January 1998, but the case was delayed while waiting for the outcome of Norris five operations, to see if he could ever work again.
"The company admitted liability early on but it was not until the day of the case that they improved their offer and we agreed a settlement," said Thompsons solicitors partner Judith Gledhill, who represented Norris.
Following the closure of Newton Kyme, Norris was also made redundant from the mill (PrintWeek, 13 October 2000).
