Newsprint buys Ferag Rollsert for Barrow site

Cumbrian Newsprint is to install the worlds first Ferag Rollsert at its print room in Barrow-in-Furness in September. The investment came after the group won a contract to print the Scottish edition of The Sun at its principal site in Carlisle.

"We had to move work from Carlisle to the Furness Print Centre, and much of this work involved inserting. We insert by hand at Barrow," said group technical director Peter Simpson.

The entry-level inserter, distributed in the UK by WRH Marketing, is capable of speeds of up to 35,000 copies per hour and is aimed at local newspaper groups.

Simpson added that the new drum, launched at Drupa, was "affordable for smaller operations such as our own", although no further details were available regarding the size of the investment.
