New year predictions: Gary White, Northside Graphics / DigitalPrinting.co.uk

White (centre):

Northside’s modest managing director is all about his people, which might be the secret sauce that help secure the Company of the Year crown in the 2023 Printweek Awards. Not that he would ever brag about it, or even mention it.

What positives are you able to draw on from the experiences of 2023?
What a year! Being bombarded by so much negative news all the time like, high inflation, interest rate rises, strikes and even staff shortages, etc. It was hard to think about positives. The main takeaway I have for 2023 was we made time to analyse and improve our operational efficiencies and to train and upskill employees to improve their performance. These improvements have left us in a great position for 2024.

What trend do you think has been accelerated because of the impact of inflation?
I think streamlining of operations, increasing automation, and increasing efficiency to drive cost savings in every department is foremost in most businesses’ plans.

What are your hopes for 2024?
A stable, growing economy with falling interest rates.

What piece of advice do you wish you had been given in December 2022 to prepare you for the year you’ve just had?
It’s going to be a strange year, but you’ve got a great team, just keep improving.

What was your word or phrase of the year in 2023?
How much?

What, if anything, will you do differently in 2024?
‘If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!’. We will do more of the same and continue to grow DigitalPrinting.co.uk.

Sprouts, yes or no?
Not Christmas without them.

Are you making any New Year's resolutions?
This is a constant battle for me, but to try and sort out my work/life balance, and of course, do some exercise.
