What’s at the top of your Christmas wish list this year?
Time out with friends and family, especially the latter!
What trend (business or technology) do you think 2018 will be remembered for?
Continuation of the trends away from generic and towards higher value and targeted. And, Facebook starting to be told to take responsibility for content, as should all internet platforms.
What do you think will represent the single biggest opportunity for printers in 2019 and why?
It remains our ability to get across to our clients the unique special and valuable capabilities and characteristics of print. Both a challenge and an opportunity.
What do you think will represent the single biggest threat for printers in 2019 and why?
Unfortunately, input prices are creating real strains, especially paper and board. Brexit uncertainty doesn’t help either unfortunately.
What’s the one thing that the industry should do more of, or do better, in 2019?
Focus on creating value, being business partners creating opportunities and solving problems for our clients. Print is a wonderful, brilliant and effective, and we need to get that across.
What was your biggest disappointment in 2018?
Seeing one or two large companies leave large savings on the table as the Government’s rebate scheme on Climate Change Levy closed to new joiners. More generally would have been nice to see England win 2 more games at the World Cup!
What was your highlight of 2018?
PrintWeek Awards, obviously! (Well, kind of…)
What are your hopes for 2019?
That we’ll put Brexit behind us, politics becomes boring again, as it should be, and get on with creating a strong economy that benefits us all.
What is your one-word view on Brexit?
Surreal (and a masterclass in how not to negotiate).
What was the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
Two ears one mouth. Use accordingly.
What if anything will you do differently in 2019?
Try to ensure that I’m only up on stage at industry events when I know in advance…
Are you making any New Year's resolutions? If so, what?
Maybe, if so, to “smell the roses” as the saying goes…
