The website is the brainchild of David Shorto, print and paper buyer for environmental groups Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth.
"At the moment the site is at the development and web compiling stage, but the idea is we provide information on two aspects," said Shorto.
The site will be aimed at printers and designers and anyone involved in the selection of paper. Shorto said information would be provided on every paper available in the UK that contains recycled material or is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified.
Links will also be provided to suppliers' websites. Information on environmentally progressive printers will be a further element, which Shorto termed as those with either ISO 14001 accreditation or FSC chain of custody.
"From my talks with a number of sources, it is clear that some do not realise that all printers are different."
Although he is currently in discussions with around 10 printers who are ISO 14001 certified, Shorto said he was issuing a rallying call to all those who fit the criteria to get in touch with him.
Shorto said although the website was still in an embryonic stage, he hoped to launch in October or November this year.
