New online greetings card service expands with Duplo investment

Newly launched personalised gift card website Funky Pigeon has bought the UK's first Duplo Ultra 205A UV coater.

The Bristol-based company launched the service in October, but has now also made it available for other companies to brand their own versions.

According to managing director Richard Pepper, this will lead to an increase in the volume of work, meaning the Duplo investment was needed.

He said: "For example, florists can have their own greeting cards service on their website, branded as their own. Volumes are set to increase."

The cards are printed on a HP Indigo 5000, then coated using the Ultra 205A. They are also finished using on two DC-645 Multi Finishers and folded on a MKF-35 Knife Folder.

Pepper said the coater was bought in order to keep pace with the rest of the production speeds and to avoid bottlenecking.

He added: "Coupled with the improvements at the front end, we wanted to enhance our already well-established reputation for high-quality finished products, by investing more in our finishing line.

"We purchased the UV coater as it complemented our two HP Indigo 5000 series machines and produced a truly excellent finish on higher-quality card.

"We have managed to change our business in a very short time. While our litho business and trade business grows, we have now successfully entered into the consumer marketplace with a range of interesting and relevant brands. Our ethos remains quality with speed."
