The appointments are in addition to a £100,000 investment made in May 2016, which tripled Nationwide’s digital print power and brought all wide-format work in-house.
Nationwide managing director Julian Hocking said: “Because we’ve had people here for so long it’s good to have fresh pairs of eyes. I want them all to speak up and have ideas and just see things from a different point of view.
“I’m keen to bring some youth into the industry because the industry and the business needs it.”
The youngest of the new recruits, Matthew Pascoe, joined the production department six months ago, following in the footsteps of his father Mike.
Nigel Williamson and Andrew Mole were hired three months ago. Williamson is estimating manager and Mole is working in the finishing department.
Williamson said: “I’m finding it is a really good company. It’s very slick and efficient, I like the general atmosphere, the way that the work goes through the building efficiently and the attention-to-detail.
Meanwhile, Dean Taylor joined 10 months ago from St Ives Printing and Publishing and works in the pre-press and digital department.
Hocking added: “It’s an ageing industry, it certainly is in the traditional side of the business in terms of B1, B2 and B3 litho printers. The industry needs more young, intelligent, hard working people.
“Anyone I’ve found of an age that was bright and hard-working I wouldn’t let them go even if I didn’t have a job for them as I might not find them again; they are few and far between.”
Nationwide now employs 15 staff at its Cornwall premises. It prides itself on its green credentials, running off power from its 2011-installed solar roof.
