The 49-year old father-of-two died in a collision that occurred close to his home in Manchester in the early hours of 1 January.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said that he was walking home from a New Year's party with his wife Rosemary, who was also injured in the collision. She remains in critical condition in hospital.
Nampak Cartons Europe said in a statement: "Stephen was a charming, charismatic man, dedicated to his job and passionate about the business for which he worked so hard.
"He was a well-known and highly respected figure within the packaging industry and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
"While we, his colleagues, must come to terms with our loss, our thoughts are now with his wife Rosemary, his children and the rest of the family, at this very difficult time."
Campbell had been with the company for 25 years and was appointed site director at Nampak Cartons' Leeds factory in November 2007. He had previously been manufacturing director at the company.
A 30-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been bailed until 9 February, pending further enquiries.
