The machine was installed at the Sheffield-based outfit’s premises at the beginning of June for a cost of around £26,000. It replaced two Morgana machines, one creaser and one folder. It was supplied by Intelligent Finishing Systems (IFS).
Director Richard Green said the machine was already starting to have a big effect on turnaround times, as it takes a step out of the finishing process; jobs that were originally taking two hours now take around 45 minutes.
Green said: “It can crease and fold inline and crease and fold offline, so it’s good for digital work and short-run litho work as well.
“It creases very accurately and doesn’t move, we’ve had no problems with it and it’s an easy operation. We also have other Horizon kit as well, so it helps in that respect.”
The machine can crease and fold a range of light and heavy stocks in one pass at up to 5,000sph. It can handle a maximum sheet size of 360x870mm, performing up to 10 creases per sheet, and uses impact scoring technology that IFS said eliminates or minimises cracking. A colour touchscreen initiates setup and job changes.
Green added: “It’s definitely had an effect. Whereas before we had to crease then trim then fold, now we can just get everything lined up and it keeps churning work out. It’s not the fastest machine in the world but it does what it says on the tin.”
The machine joins Myprint’s 2015-purchased Horizon SPF stitching line, alongside its Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74 and Xerox J75. The 10-staff outfit, which produces a range of commercial print, has sales of around £1m, with around 20% of that figure made up from digital work. It was founded three years ago by Green and his partner Ian McCloskey.
