MSO Cleland boosts productivity by 40% with new eight-colour KBA Rapida

MSO Cleland has experienced a near 40% boost in productivity rates of its UV packaging material production following the installation of a KBA Rapida 106UV.

The eight-colour press forms part of a £4m investment programme at the Belfast-based B1 packaging printer that began early last year.

The 106 UV, which will complement two Heidelberg machines, runs at 18,000iph and features fully automated plate changing and the manufacturer's DriveTronic SIS infeed system, which is claimed to eliminate manual intervention during substrate changes.

Dominic Walsh, chief executive of MSO Cleland, said the key focus in investing in the new press was to improve the company's performance.

"Improved productivity and resulting increased capacity means we are well positioned for future growth, especially in the very demanding luxury packaging sector where the superior print quality achieved with the KBA is a real bonus," he said.

"Price and quality are a given in the packaging market but our dynamic flexibility is definitely enhanced with the installation of this KBA press."

A recent strategic review at MSO Cleland has seen it focus more on growth in the drinks, pharmaceuticals, personal care and cosmetics markets.

The three-year investment programme will total £4m across all areas of the business, with the biggest investment being the KBA press.
