The press, which was installed at the packaging giant's Greenford site in the first week of June, has replaced two B2 presses. One of these was sold on while the other was transferred to another of the firm’s UK sites.
“The investment was made due to market changes, such as the need for larger patient information leaflets to meet EU regulations for the inclusion of more information,” said Mark Wilson, general manager of Chesapeake/MPS Leaflets UK & Ireland.
“It was also made for cost savings and to help with additional work that is currently coming online. It will future-proof our print capability for the next phase of our development.”
Another reason the firm chose the press is because of its proficiency with lightweight stocks, as much of the firm’s work is printed on 40gsm paper.
The press features KBA’s DriveTronic Simultaneous Plate Change, DriveTronic Plate Ident, CleanTronic Synchro multi-purpose washing system and ErgoTronic ColorDrive ink density measurement.
It also includes LogoTronic CIPLinkX to transfer presetting data, high-efficiency antistatic equipment and an extended video system for sheet travel monitoring.
The press buy is part of a £3m investment programme, which has also included the retrofitting of a Maybeg ReelSheeter system for the printing of reels on the firm's existing six-colour KBA Rapida 106.
“There has been significant post-press investment including a new Perfecta Guillotine along with other bespoke finishing equipment,” said Wilson.
The company's Greenford site produces specialist patient information leaflets and is used as an innovation centre for leaflet development, serving niche markets and trialling new offerings.
